Estimates, Not Guarantees

All results produced by TransferCalc calculators are estimates based on the file size and transfer speed values you provide. They represent theoretical sustained transfer rates and should not be treated as guarantees of actual transfer performance.

Why Actual Performance May Differ

Real-world transfer times can vary due to factors outside the scope of a simple calculation, including:

  • Network protocol overhead (TCP/IP headers, acknowledgments, retransmissions).
  • Wi-Fi signal quality, interference, and distance from the router.
  • ISP congestion, throttling, or rate limiting during peak hours.
  • Server or CDN capacity and per-connection bandwidth limits.
  • Device performance, including disk read/write speed and CPU load.
  • VPNs, proxies, firewalls, and other intermediaries.

Decimal and Binary Units

TransferCalc supports both decimal (GB, MB) and binary (GiB, MiB) file-size units. Ensure you select the unit that matches how your operating system or device reports file sizes. Mixing conventions without adjustment will produce misleading results.

Internet Speed Test Results

When available, the TransferCalc Internet Speed Test will provide an estimate of throughput between your browser and TransferCalc-controlled test infrastructure. Results will be labeled as estimates and will vary with network conditions, device performance, and routing. They are not laboratory-grade measurements and should not be treated as certified assessments of your ISP's maximum capacity.
